My main wish would be a mod that divorces tech level from location, so the tech dominance of European countries happens, if it happens, because of policies, philosophies, resources, opportunities and trade instead of because they happen to start in the right place in 1490. On these forums of all places, I would remiss if I did not tell you about the Touhou mod and the MLP mod! XD Since they need new maps and/or wholesale changes to game mechanics/graphics/etc, these can be expected to be longer in the works. Projects include one covering about the same period as Paradox's Victoria (1815–1921) an Ancient and Classical World project (Aurora Universalis) a Game of Thrones mod and a Warcraft mod.

There are a few of these, but most seem to be still short of the fully playable stage.

Not yet integrated with any of the mods above, but maybe some day … It is also incorporated as a module in MEIOU & Taxes, and MNS: Rinascimento! (But not VeF.)Ī mod focused on oft-neglected East Asia. There's much more to it beyond that as well, and it's now been fully ported to EUIV. If what actually happened never happens, can a mod really be historically plausible? But there is so much work still to do …ĭG was a huge religious mod for EUIII, whose most notable feature was to enable multiple religions per province (via a system of variables tracking minorities). Some MNS team members worked on Magna Mundi, but I think we differ from its philosophy in a couple of ways: we're not happy with generic systems, aiming at lots of unique flavour for countries and regions and while we don't want to force historical outcomes, we do want to see them some of the time. The mod incorporates a couple of modules converted from Magna Mundi, but is largely new material. XD Tired of Latin titles? So are we, which is why the latest version is MNS: Rinascimento! The subtitle reflects that the Italian Renaissance is one of our most developed elements so far.

I include this one because it's the leading mod that doesn't attempt to extend the timeline and ( full disclosure) because I'm one of the designers. It also extends the timeline, from the mid-14th century to the early 20th, IIRC, and adds provinces. But the designers have been working on EUIV development for their combined project since before the game was even released, so there's lots of new material too. This has been formed by the conversion and merger of two major EUIII mods: MEIOU, and Death & Taxes. It extends the timeline from 1309 to 1865 and adds a lot of provinces. The alternate history scenario is still there, but there are regular starting points too. It is almost all new content for EUIV, with almost all its modding team fresh to EU modding, AFAIK. But it expanded very ambitiously from there.

This began as Glory of Byzantium - an alternate history mod in which the Eastern Roman Empire had not declined. (*The biggest EUIII mod.) Then again, Paradox say exactly the same thing too these days! They aim to reflect historical conditions while not including "railroading" events that force a certain outcome. I can find links if you like.)ĪFAIK, all of these mods subscribe - to one extent or another - to the Magna Mundi* mantra of "historically plausible outcomes". But you can find the mods on Steam Workshop too. (You'll need a Paradox forums account with EUIV registered for the links below.

However, the best thing about EU games (whose vanilla releases tend towards the bland …) has always been the user mods! And for EUIV these are beginning to take shape by now … Crusader Kings II has always enjoyed quite popular discussion on these boards, but things seem to have gone quiet on the Europa Universalis IV front, after a discussion thread that lasted for a while after release.
